A verrucae or wart is a viral infection in the top layer of the skin (epidermis) that presents as circular-shaped lesions. They are caused by the Human Papillomavirus (HPV).
The appearance varies from one singular lesion or in multiples as clusters, and this is determined by the strain of the virus

They can be unsightly and painful. Warts on the soles of the feet are also called ‘plantar warts’ or ‘verrucas’.
